Systems Support Engineer

? Plan for, install and maintain hardware.
? Install, test and maintain systems and application software.
? Monitor, maintain and improve systems performance.
? Produce performance statistics to demonstrate high availability.
? Ensure maximum systems availability and security.
? Provide help and assistance to customers and other support staff.
? Ensure projects deliver solutions on time and to budget.







Essential/Job Requirements:


ESSENTIAL:
Three years experience and upwards in systems administration and support.
? Good knowledge of HP-UX and LINUX, preferably redhat, is essential.
? Good Knowledge in writing shell scripts (e.g. C , Korn and Bourne).
? An understanding of the UNIX FLEXLM licensing structure.
DESIRABLE:
? Knowledge of design applications would be a distinct advantage.
? Experience in project planning is desirable, along with some programming experience.
? Knowledge of MS operating systems would be an advantage.
? As would knowledge of Solaris, MS Applications and/or Networking.
? To be able to analyse and use their own initiative to solve user problems.
? To communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to colleagues and staff of all levels across the site.
? To be able to work equally well on their own and as part of a team is essential.
? The ability to learn quickly and have an enthusiasm to take on a range of tasks.
? The flexibility and willingness to occasionally work out of normal hours to minimise user disruption.
? The ability to meet tight deadlines and work in a pressurised environment to meet challenging user requirements.
? Qualified to at least HND level in Computing or a related area (Degree level preferred).
