1 Year Placement - Modelling Group
Location: Cambridge, UK
Ref: 04INDPLACEIPMD
The IP Modelling group are looking for students studying either Computer Science or Computer Engineering at University.
The 20-strong IP Modelling group is responsible for creating software models (“emulators”) of CPUs, peripherals and whole systems. The group also creates simulation technology to drive these models.
The project within the IP Modelling group aims to use cycle-accurate simulation models to predict performance characteristics (area, power, etc) of CPUs. As there are no EDA tools to do this at the software emulation level (there are for the RT level), the project involves the use of AI techniques to help in the prediction. The project will also involve the implementation of simulation techniques such as memoization to make the simulation runs feasible.
The placement will involve you in all aspects of the project. You'll need to have a background/interest in:
Computer architecture: in particular, processor and memory design at RT level
Event-based simulation kernels
AI, statistics
Other, similar projects might be available too.
You'll need to be able to code in C and C++, and be able to at least read Verilog - or be fast at picking up programming languages. You should be familiar with Unix development tools (Make, gcc, gdb, Shell scripting, perl).
