Copier Specialist
To be responsible for providing, efficient and effective, fault finding solutions, to a wide range of copiers.
To create and maintain a user friendly Knowledge based system, for use by all operators within the Reconditioning and RCS areas.
To improve the overall throughput of machines within the department by supplying first line support to operators to minimise downtime.
3. MAIN DUTIES
1) To support the production operators by fault finding problems with machines and options produced within the operation.
2) To carryout repairs on machines and options, as required whilst maintaining the throughput of the department.
3) To determine and offer advice and guidance to operators to help identify and correct machine faults.
4) To be responsible for the creation and upkeep of a user friendly centralised KBS database containing detailed corrective actions.
5) To undertake structured training on all new models and assist in the implementation of new processes into the area.
6) To support the team leader in identifying and implementing Kaizen improvements.
7) To maintain up to date technical knowledge on all relevant Ricoh products processed within the department.
4. SCOPE OF JOB / DIMENSIONS.
Department is responsible for a turnover of £500k a year.
Department is responsible for an output of 240 units a month.
5. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE
1) Minimum age of 28.
2) Qualified copier engineer to HNC / HND level. ( level 5).
3) Minimum 5 years field based engineering experience.
4) Up-to-date Software and Hardware Product knowledge
5) Sound analytical skills.
6) Basic PC knowledge (Excel and Access)
6. COMPLEXITY & CREATIVITY
• Uses creative thought to identify improvements and minimise downtime.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining KBS for employees.
• Must ensure accuracy in fault finding root causes to enable sound decision making.
• Provides specialist knowledge and guidelines on copier issues to production and engineering departments.
• Identifies and resolves machine malfunction in order to achieve specified output deadlines.
• Appraises existing solutions and processes and implements any changes necessary to increase effectiveness.
7. JUDGEMENT & DECISIONS
• Responsible for management of KBS.
• Authority to review and propose changes to procedures within the Recon and RCS departments.
• Discretion allowed on implementing corrective actions within agreed process assurance flows.
• Guidance and support is available from RWL, RUK and RPL colleagues, although acts as the specialist on site
• Advice and reference must be taken on major issues affecting both internal and external customers from the Assistant Production Manager.
• Inaccurate information will result in increased costs, reduced efficiency and financial penalties for unrecovered labour.
• Effective decisions will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Department.

• External contacts include:
RPL engineering personnel.
RUK training and Engineering personnel.
• Must influence and persuade all employees to be aware of costs by identifying and providing cost effective corrective actions
9. WORKING CONDITIONS & ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• Required to work additional hours as necessary to effectively discharge duties
• Expected to travel to Telford and other venues as necessary
• Expected to be flexible on holiday arrangements to ensure timely production of monthly targets.
