Software Team Leader - Development Systems

Leading the product engineering group, you will have overall responsibility for the engineering deliverables for the group, line managing up to 4 team leaders, each heading teams of 3-4 engineers. Leading your group, you will be responsible for the delivery of a range of individual products and technologies, and will need to manage both long and short–term development requirements over several releases of the product. You will be expected to drive to the overall technical roadmap of certain components in the Developer Suite and Developer Kit. You will also be expected to make significant contributions to the definition and running of the processes used by the Development Systems development teams.
The role will involve coordination and active participation in some or all of the following activities:

Line management of group team leaders

Development and implementation of suitable validation strategies based on these documents.

Responsibility for setting and agreeing implementation time-scales and then ensuring they are adhered to.

Balancing the engineering resource levels within the product engineering group

Working with the product marketing team to define the requirements and roadmap of the deliverables

Consultation with the product support teams to address customer specific needs.

Working closely with other engineering team managers in the division

Being a technical representative at meetings with partners, including product specification meetings, product review meetings, and product acceptance meetings.
Creation and review of documents such as product and engineering requirement specifications

The successful candidate will report to the solutions and targets manager, but will be expected to work with minimal supervision whilst working proactively with other team managers. This will involve occasional travel to the other development sites within the UK and USA.
Required attributes
The successful candidate
must have 6+ years of software development experience

must be fluent in C and C++.

must have experience of either developing embedded software debugging tools or compilation tools, or an IDE.

must be able to demonstrate clear team leadership skills, including leading a team of teams.

must be able to demonstrate a clear knowledge of development and validation processes.

must be able to work in and contribute to, a technically challenging environment

must be able to run a number of projects in parallel, effectively managing the resource pool of a team of engineers

should have experience of the application space, including an understanding of embedded software development.

should have experience of direct customer contact, including producing software tailored to particular lead customers
