Software Applications Engineer
Background
This role within the Product Support Group is to provide specialist advice on the usage of development systems - including compilers, linkers, GUI make tools, debuggers, debug hardware and development boards.
You will be required to work closely with other engineers, both within the product support group and also withindevelopment groups to obtain an excellent knowledge of products and to provide input on future developments. You will then use this understanding to provide customers with the knowledge they require for designing processors into their new products.
The transfer of your knowledge will take a number of forms. First of all you will need to be able to provide comprehensive responses to customer enquiries. Such enquiries may be received by email, telephone or face to face meetings.
Secondly you will also be required to provide in-depth technical training to customers who are located worldwide. You will therefore be expected to be able to travel every six to eight weeks. You will also be expected to have excellent interpersonal skills and be a good presenter.
Thirdly you will be responsible for the generation and review of new product documentation, such as application notes, frequently asked question lists and user guides.
Finally you will also be required to mentor and assist the newer members within the group in the production of comprehensive responses to customer enquiries.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Good university degree, in software engineering, computer science or Electronic Engineering ideally, although other science graduates would be considered if they have relevant experience.
Experience
Preferably at least four years experience of embedded software development, including coding (preferably C/C++), testing and debugging. However high calibre graduates with less experience may also be considered for a more junior variant of this role, as full training will be given.
Experience of microprocessors or microcontrollers
A good understanding of the interaction between software and hardware
Some experience of Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) would also be of interest, though is not essential
