Laser Photonics Engineer

The position involves a medium to senior role in the design and manufacturing of state-of-the-art flash-lamp pumped pulsed nanosecond SLM RGB Q-switched Neodymium lasers. The position also involves a key role in R&D.

Extensive experience with flash-lamp pumped pulsed Neodymium lasers is essential. Hands-on experience in such techniques as non-linear frequency conversion using KTP, DKDP and LBO and Passive Q-switching would be expected. Familiarity with the design of ring cavities as well as telescopic linear cavities would be an advantage. A practical knowledge of basic laser host materials such as YAG, YLF and YALO would also be an advantage.

The successful candidate should be energetic and willing to learn quickly. He/she should have obtained a PhD in experimental laser physics (or equivalent) and will normally have worked in academia/industry for at least 2 years after finishing such a PhD. The candidate should have a sound understanding of the quantum processes involved in laser emission. Most importantly he/she must have a natural ability for meticulous experimental investigation. The candidate should enjoy working in a challenging environment where scientific research is required to yield real solutions within a given timescale.

Our Client is a small company of around 10 people based in Sussex Innovation Centre just outside Brighton. The company also has a larger facility in Lithuania (established in 1992) and a close cooperation with a partly-owned partner company in Montreal, Canada. The present job is offered for our location in the UK.

Salary £25 to £35k dependant on experience. Position available immediately.
