PROPULSION TEST ENGINEER - Ref. 2535
PRINCIPAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
• Act as a test team leader after following a period of on the job training and as the department specialist in rocket propellant chemistry (MON, MMH, Hydrazine).
• Handle hazardous substances and support test campaigns on flight hardware and propellant loading operations.
• Facilitate the building and testing of spacecraft development test systems.
• Procurement, maintenance, calibration and storage of propulsion GSE.
• Accumulate Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and pack for transport to international destinations.
• Perform testing and record the test results for spacecraft propulsion systems, from component level through to system Level following Test Procedures, set up and check-out GSE.
• Produce reports on tests performed and make recommendations.
• Liase with customers, company representatives and subcontractors for test requirements, GSE servicing and shipping.
• Attend Planning meetings, Customer and Manufacturer design reviews.
• Load propellants into spacecraft systems.
• Write test requirements, procedures, test reports and equipment records.
• Produce testing schedules and estimating costs, manpower and equipment.
• Research, design and procurement of test equipment.
• Produce shipping documentation to ensure that all goods comply with dimensional compatibility, international transport regulations and Customs authorisation.
• Travel at short notice to international destinations for test and launch campaigns and also to attend meetings and facility surveys.
• Prepared to move and clean GSE either by hand or with the aid of handling equipment, such as cranes, forklift trucks and pallet trucks.
• Work away from home for continuous periods of up to 2 months.
• Wear SCAPE equipment or acid proof clothing/BA for extended periods during propellant loading or decontamination activities.
EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Essential
• Degree level qualification in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
• Able to work as a Team Member as well as to lead a team of engineers whilst working overseas.
• Flexible approach to working hours and times.
• Able to communicate with foreign colleagues and customers with patience and understanding.
• Computer literate - MS Office.
Desirable
• Experience of handling rocket propellants (MON, MMH, Hydrazine)
