LOCUM GENERAL DENTAL PRACTITIONER REQUIRED

JOB TITLE: Dental Officer

QUALIFICATIONS:
An appropriate professional qualification and full registration with the General Dental Council. Compliance with the
requirements of Continuing Professional Development.

GRADE:
Band 1 – LA51 (Band A from 1 April 2008)

BASE:
All staff within the Salaried Primary Dental Care Service are expected to be able to work from any clinic within the
region at any time with reasonable notice and discussion. No one is permanently based at any one location. You may also be asked to shift from one site to another at short notice or may even be expected to work at more than one site in one day. Travel expenses, where appropriate, will be reimbursed at Whitley Council rates.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Dental Officer will assist the Clinical Director and/or Senior Dental Officers in carrying out his responsibility for the
provision of services and training of staff. The Dental Officer will undertake general clinical duties and specific duties within
particular areas of practice and expertise, if appropriate. The post is primarily clinical but may include an administrative element
and the direction of ancillary staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1 To undertake the provision of dental care, which may include screening, of all groups of patients who may be identified as the responsibility of the Salaried Primary Care Dental Service.
2 To provide a high quality, fully comprehensive service, both preventive and restorative, for those patients in his/her care.
3 To be involved in the day-to-day management of the clinic in which he/she is based.
4 To participate in surveys, special projects, etc. as required.
5 To attend meetings as directed by the Clinical Director/Senior Dental Officers.
6 To assist the Clinical Director/Senior Dental Officers with any proposals to improve the provision of dental services.
7 To comply with the Continuing Professional Development requirements of the General Dental Council and attend such courses and/or postgraduate training as may be required.
8 To supervise appropriately and direct ancillary staff of all grades as required.
9 Any other appropriate duties which, from time to time, may be considered necessary by the Clinical Director/Senior Dental Officers.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:

1 Staff working within the Salaried Primary Dental Care Service are required to take up the offer of Hepatitis ‘B’ vaccination, and regular monitoring thereafter.
2 Staff will be required to wear identity badges during working hours.
3 All staff will participate in the Trust’s Clinical Governance and personal development programmes.
4 Dentists working within the Salaried Primary Dental Care Service are required to be registered on a PCT performer list
