Design Engineer

The Roll

To design and develop new products/product extensions from concept to completion.
Responsible for control of allocated budget for particular projects where applicable/ given.
To be responsible for the design and development of new products/product extensions/ other projects. The pursuance of this will involve:
The compilation of project programmes and managing progress;
Control and expenditure for each project, where applicable/given;
Liasing with internal departments, suppliers, customers and technical establishments.
To design and develop products/projects from specific marketing/technical remits to product release, involving: -
Conceptual design techniques
The use of Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS)
The use of CAD; Pro Engineer CAD
The use of strain gauge and other analytical methods;
Preparation of Development Test job sheets and progressing of work;
Maintaining awareness of new technology through various sources;
Compliance to the Design Manual and statutory design requirements;
Preparation/arranging of costings for new, modified or standard products
when necessary;
The Candidate

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience in casting and rubber technology preferred.
Experience in piping, coupling and valve design desirable.
A flair for design and innovation required.
Working knowledge of Finite Element and CAD essential.
Experience with Pro Engineer and Ansys preferred.
Practical knowledge of six sigma and lean techniques desirable.
Ability to manage own activities including those pertaining to the projects and subcontract services.
Job Holder may be required to travel to China and within Europe and spend a proportion of their time within a work or test environment.
Frequent contact with customers and suppliers is essential.
Job Holder may be expected to involve himself in the development of processes, whenever applicable, in the pursuance of the design project.
The Job Holder will be expected to familiarise himself with the company's Health and Safety policy and relevant statutory duties, and to implement it if it applies to his activities or falls within his sphere of control.
The Job Holder is required to familiarise himself with the Quality Manual and to work within the general guidelines presented
