Design Engineer (Electro/Mechanical)

The Roll

The design, development, project management and introduction of new and existing products that meet the requirements of the business in terms of style, quality, technology, innovation, cost and reliability.
In-house provision of mechanical/electrical design and development services for current and new vending machines, assemblies and components as part of an integrated engineering department.
Collation of product requirements through interviews, meetings and research where appropriate to arrive at agreed specifications and to document these accordingly.
To ensure allocated tasks are delivered to production and sales on time, to cost and to the defined specification and that they are fit for purpose.
Delivery of value engineering projects and initiatives that support a culture of continuous improvement and lower costs.
Creation and maintenance or mechanical engineering drawings in 3D solid works and other software as designated by the company.
Creation and maintenance of electrical engineering schematics/drawings. (This is presently carried out using a combination of 2D AutoCAD and MS Visio. It is envisaged that a more dedicated system will be introduced in the future)
Liaison with suppliers and the purchasing department to source and build sample mechanical and electrical components, assemblies and machines as part of the design realization process.
Ensure all design changes are delivered to production in full and to the standard required for efficient manufacture.
Collation and maintenance of design costs through accurate design BOMs and project expense codes and to report on these to the design and engineering manager.
Ensuring the sample approval and engineering change procedures are adhered to for all design changes.
Ensuring all areas of responsibility are carried out in line with the company’s current standards and methods, maintaining all required documentation and records.
Ability to travel across the UK and Europe to visit suppliers and third party service providers.
