Flexible Salary - £40,000 to £50,000
UK Wide remit

The role is a Lead Design Engineer for a Combined Heat and Power design team, taking accountability for creating commercially attractive CHP (Combined Heat and Power) and DH (District Heating) schemes between 250kW and 10MW across the UK.

You will take the leading role in growing the design team and influencing the strategic direction of the technical department, build strong relationships with clients and contribute in advancing the companies reputation in the zero and low carbon design and delivery space.

The department is a new, rapidly growing department within a very large energy provider. The company has enough critical mass to offer a highly flexible approach to the design, build, own and operate practice which means it is seen as a very attractive company to work with. They are winning many contracts in all facets of the CHP market.

To date, the department began in early 2007 and currently has a work force of 60 people in the department. The growth plan is to have well over 100 people by the end of the year.


The ideal type of individual is an experienced mechanical or electrical design engineer who has experience with CHP generation units and district heating modelling and design. You will have had exposure to live projects and be able to demonstrate design experience. An additional knowledge and experience of working with the UK sustainability agenda, strategy and policies is an advantage.

The role:
Having the growth plans that they do, they are creating 3 new business pods. The lead designer sits at the top of the business unit and has responsibility for CHP Technical Analysts and System Designers.

What you need to be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Design
- Previous experience with CHP generation and District Heating
- Energy modelling software experience
- Degree Qualified, chartered or industry body affiliation is an advantage
- Small team management experience
- Project management experience
