Mechanical Project Engineer - Building Services - Essex
Red River's client is a leading multi-disciplinary building services company offering a comprehensive range of services to commercial, industrial and domestic clients across London, East Anglia and the South East.
The company is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer with a strong contracting background for a variety of projects in the Colchester area.
Main Duties:
Reporting to the M&E Contracts Manager, and in accordance with laid down standards and systems, you will assume overall contractual and financial responsibility for allocated projects from contract award to end of defects liability period as a minimum, thereby ensuring obligations are met and a high profile is given to maximising company profitability.
This will include the following:
* Attend, where requested, pre-order tender meetings with the Estimating Department and client or professional team.
* Attend handover, pre-contract meetings and receive all project information from Estimating Department. Assume responsibility for project from contract award onwards.
* Produce a materials, subcontractor, installation, procurement and drawing programme.
* Liaise with the Contracts Estimator on distribution/material scheduling, phasing and programming requirements.
* Check and ensure all major suppliers and manufacturers comply with contract drawings and specifications, instruct buyers on order placement and check acknowledgements within set budgets.
* Produce information required schedules of technical or contractual issues for clarification from client or professional team.
* Liaise with the HR Department to ensure that operatives are engaged as required.
* Instigate the company Operative Incentive Scheme (O.I.S.) and prepare monthly reports for assessment purposes and maintain records in order to accurately forecast final labour expenditure.
* Supervise labour, subcontractors and all facets of installation, ensuring compliance with specification and contract documentation.
* Check quality control of the installation and take effective measures in areas of deficiencies.
* Attend all contract site meetings including preparation of reports required by client and professional team.
* Organise site establishment, storage offices, plant, equipment and consumables required to complete works, within set budget parameters.
Qualifications, skills & experience:
* An overall knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of HVAC/mechanical systems and their installation methods.
* A good knowledge of all aspects of health and safety within the industry and the ability to implement control measures at site level.
* The ability to plan ahead, co-ordinate and prioritise workloads.
* Good communication skills, both written and oral.
* Good people management and motivational skills.
* The ability to work under pressure to meet set deadlines.
* Numeracy and literacy skills.
* The ability to multi-task and be methodical.
* The ability to work unsupervised but also to be an active team member.
* The ability to read, interpret and fully understand specifications and drawings.
* A pro-active approach to problem solving.
* A basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Project.
