Architectural Technologist
Opportunity to join an established and expanding Architects Practice of 80+ based near St Albans, Hertfordshir. They are currently looking for Architectural Technicians to join them working for a number of high profile clients in a variety of sectors.
Technical Requirement
• Be able to produce accurate and economic technical work to tight deadlines.
• Produce schematic, general arrangements and detail drawings for building construction and internal fitting out, including space planning, setting out, drainage and service layouts, construction details, joinery details etc.
• Produce effective working solutions, designs and drawings from a brief with the minimum of supervision.
• Experience and understanding of Statutory Application processes including the preparation and submission of drawing packages for the following:
Planning Consent, Advertisement Consent, Listed Building Consent, Building Regulations and Building Warrant Approvals. Fire Officer, Trading Standards, Environmental Health. Liaising with Local Authorities and monitoring and negotiating successful approvals.
• Experience and understanding of CDM Regulations, including the preparation of Risk Assessments and Risk Registers.
• Experience and understanding of Health & Safety Legislation.
• Assisting with site construction problems and design changes as they arise.
• Produce Schedules of Works and Specifications including Finishes Schedules, Fixtures and Fittings Schedules, Door & Ironmongery Schedules.
• Thorough working knowledge of current building construction practice and detailing including current building materials and their application.
• Research and investigation into new building products and techniques as necessary.
• Provide technical support to Project Managers and other team members as necessary.
• Carry out measured site and building and condition surveys if required.
• Be focused on efficient design and efficient output.
• Understand the cost of work produced/learn relationship between fee and production.
• Undertaking structured CPD.
• Adhere to BIAT Code of Conduct.

• Be confident in communicating with other design consultants, clients and contractors.
Skills/Knowledge
• Knowledge and awareness of current regulations including:
The Building Regulations
The CDM Regulations
The Disability Discrimination Act
Good Building Practice.
• Carry out Risk Assessments to comply with the CDM Regulations
• Accurate use of AutoCAD 2000I or AutoCAD LT2000I
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Adobe Photoshop and similar packages would be useful.
