Media Project Sales Manager

The Client: Our client is a leading International Media Company that produces, finances, supplies and sells special interest supplements to be delivered through daily newspapers, trade journals, business press publications, and online.

They produce over 500 special interest supplements each year which end up as supplements and insertions in other printed and online media. They think of original ideas for supplements, research the marketability of these concepts and then sell the ideas with new and established client newspapers and magazines.

Among their clients, they have some of Europe’s largest media and newspapers, such as The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Economist, The Evening Standard and the Times, here in the UK.

Established in 2004 and with 18 offices across the globe, stretching from Asia, through most of Europe to the US, they have in a very short time become one of the most successful companies within the “paper in paper” industry, and now they are very well established in Web-TV publishing as well.

Many of their titles are issued frequently on each market, highlighting their products’ high quality and the current demand for interesting informative supplements. Our client is set to expand continuously and will continue to grow their market share and establish new markets.

The Role: As part of their European expansion, our client’s London office is looking to appoint a number of Project Managers.

This position is an interesting combination of both Project Management and Sales Management. You should be able to plan and drive a complete development strategy from concept through to print production to create interesting and informative supplements on a given subject within a topic area such as Finance, Leisure & Lifestyle and Healthcare.

The Project Manager role is suitable for business minded, entrepreneurial, energetic people with strong sales skills, where you take the supplements from the initial idea stage, through planning, financing, coordination of all external journalists and designers, to print and distribution.

A typical supplement is produced in 6 weeks. The first task for the Project Manager is to research the title allocated. This is to get to know the industry (it could be anything from Diamonds to HR Software) and find out who the major potential advertisers are. The next stage is split into two elements; sales (getting relevant clients to advertise in perfect context) and editorial quality control (set up editorial synopsis, commission journalists and designers). Finally, everything is prepared for print and distribution.

The Project Manager works on a budget and is rewarded according to performance quarterly. Our client’s generous bonus schemes allow them to set out ambitious goals about who they hire. They want winners, energetic winners.

They are a rapidly growing company and all managerial positions are recruited from the pool of Project Managers internationally. Working as a Project Manager is very demanding, but the path to new, challenging roles within the conglomerate is short for super achievers.
