Main Responsibilities
To support the purchasing manager in co-ordinating, implementation and monitoring of departmental measures.
To be responsible for the competitive purchasing of components.
Ensuring that our suppliers understand and are committed to the company’s philosophy of improvement in the areas of cost, quality and delivery.
To identify areas of weakness in the department and set processes in place to strengthen.
Develop business cases for supply solutions based on make v’s buy analysis and leading teams & communicating at all levels.


Key Requirements

Cost Management
Ability to use high level comparative analysis tools.
High level strong negotiation skills using open book cost analysis.
Manage cost variances through NPI and ensure costs remain competitive from cradle to grave.
Initiate, manage and lead VA/VE strategies to enhance product cost margins.
Reducing total acquisition costs.

People Management
To lead the commodity buyers in developing commodity strategies and setting individual targets.
To support the purchase manager in mentoring staff and setting objectives.
In the absence of the purchasing Manager, take lead responsibility for managing the production and non production buying teams.

N.P.I
To ensure purchasing fully supports the NPI process.
To ensure timely delivery of components in line with project requirements.
Proactively identify & mitigate risk at all stages of the procurement process from initial enquiry through to programme delivery & control closure.


Supplier Development / Management
To ensure suppliers meet the requirements of the QCD supplier measurement system.
Set stringent recovery plans with suppliers not meeting the required QCD levels.


General
Ability to benchmark suppliers, technologies & markets globally and identify new potential sources that can meet the Company supplier requirements.
To report performance against agreed KPI’s through Kaizen improvement measures.
Low cost sourcing experience.
Tracking the material markets and reviewing any Economic cost movements and risks of supply.
Negotiating supply agreements / Service level agreements.
Articulate business issues at a senior level.


Qualifications / Experience
An HNC in Business Studies or 'A' level passes in commercial or technical subjects or relevant work experience.
Relevant degree or CIPS qualification is desirable.
Excellent negotiating skills preferably from an environment of continuous improvement.
Knowledge of SPC, FMEA and Kaizen is desirable.
Must be fast thinking and a good communicator who is able to prioritise, giving a first class service to both internal and external customers.
Excellent team working, project management and motivational / mentoring skills.
Have the ability to challenge current working practices in a constructive manner & develop commodity based strategies.
Ability to develop business cases for supply solutions based on make v’s buy analysis & ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills in order to communicate at all levels.
