Reports To: Project Engineering Manager

Job Purpose:
To assist in the Continuous Improvement philosophy of the company in its drive for ‘Best of Class’ status and continued growth and profitability.
To offer timely and effective engineering support to production areas and to ensure effective communication with all customers, suppliers and internal colleagues on all quality, engineering and production issues.


Principal Accountabilities

Participate in the on-going technical engineering activities with the customers, suppliers and other company engineering departments

Adherence and control of the company PPCA, (Product Change control) procedure and activities.

Lead and drive engineering continuous improvements activities in line with the agreed targets and budgets.

Ensure the correct level of engineering support within the production outflow teams to effectively contribute to the team positively, ensuring corrective actions are robust & completed within agreed timescales.

Assist in the drive for awareness of problem solving and corrective action techniques, such as Fishbone diagrams, action plans and timing.

Ensure correct level of engineering support in the review and update of all FMEAs Process Flows, Control Plans, Work Instructions, Gauge Instructions, Packing Instructions, and other documents in the Production Process Master files.

Work within all agreed budgets and implement cost and timing controls.

Ensure engineering support in the promotion of safe working practices & good housekeeping disciplines. Ensure high standards of health & safety are maintained.

Promote the Company’s aims, goals and requirements towards achieving and maintaining TS 16949 and other Quality award initiatives.

To identify where change is necessary and to facilitate continuous improvement activity within the company and also to introduce the most suitable technology within operational limits via the PPCA and CIP database routes

Support in the preparation of PPAP submissions for new and modified projects / products

Offer engineering support in reaction to customers’ complaints and issues.

As required offer and maintain Engineering support on New Project Developments, as agreed with Project Manager.

Adherence to systems and procedures (internal audit of activities)

Ensure a high level of housekeeping is maintained and monitored via the 5 S system.

Ensure that the company is aware of and kept abreast of all cost effective new and best of class technologies.

Maintain an open channel for ‘Lessons learnt’ feed back to New Projects.

Promote good Production Engineering skills.


Key Challenges:
To improve and maintain the Technical Engineering Support department within the company as directed, by constantly monitoring best practice methods, technologies and product knowledge.

Measurables:
Achievement of agreed Improvement targets.
Reduction of number of Customer Concerns, especially at launch
Reduction in scrap % ( through robust engineering corrective actions)
Adherence to systems and procedures ( internal audit of activities )

Objective:
Improve and maintain good, sound engineering practices within the company.
Promote change throughout the company.
Reducing & stabilising PPM levels & Failure Mode reduction.
Introduce better Poka-Yoke and RFT systems.

Background:
Ideally degree qualified (or min HND) plus 5 years experience within a quality, engineering or manufacturing environment, preferably within the automotive industry. The job holder will have good customer liaison skills and experience of project management. IT skills, the ability to work on own initiative and thrive under pressure are essential.

The nature of the job demands that the job holder is conversant with and understands current quality & production requirements of the Company and its customers and the quality / production requirements the company demands of its suppliers.


The Engineer must work in a cross-functional manner. The job holder must have the ability to:-

Liaise with and co-ordinate the contribution from employees from other departments and external bodies.
Develop good rapport with all levels of staff.

Be decisive and have leadership skills.
Have reporting and presentation skills, and be confident in presentation to all levels of management and employees within both the Company and customers.
Be a valuable member of the Engineering department and support for its manager.

At all times the job holder must be aware of the current levels of scrap, PPM, OEE and any other measurables within the company.
