Job Purpose:
To develop and support functions of the Production Engineering team. The successful candidate will have specific responsibility for managing a number of high profile engineering projects.

Principal Areas of Responsibility:
To work with the management, production operators and engineering team to significantly improve efficiencies in the section, aiming to achieve “right first time, every time” standards of Quality and delivery.
To project manage the installation of the new machine with minimum disruption to everyday work.
To implement cycle time and headcount reductions through automation and improvement activities.
To work towards improvements in the production process.
To manage the introduction of new products and the trialling process.
The candidate should be able to provide colleagues and customers with expert knowledge relating to heat exchanger technology.
Responsible for the initial creation of PFMEA’s, Process Plans, Process Drawings
To take ownership of Quality Improvement processes relating to the section, in line with Company standards and procedures.
To read and interpret product design drawings where necessary.
To contribute to tooling design where required
To implement cost reduction ideas developed by the use of such techniques as Kaizen, showing awareness of Value Analysis / Value Engineering standards (VAVE).
Liasing with customers to provide engineering support/knowledge.
Liasing with suppliers to ensure the right product, price and delivery.
Responsible for providing jigs/fixtures, gauging and equipment for new products.
Responsible for giving engineering knowledge for new product design.
Responsible for statistical process control of new product’s.
Implementing cost saving exercises.
Co-ordinating set-up time reduction projects.
To support shift-based activities by working outside normal hours as the project requires.
Produce process stage drawings, flow charts and control plans.
To build project teams and lead team meetings.
To be responsible for a Capital Expenditure budget, sourcing equipment and making investment decisions where required.
To work towards personal development and team goals, including KPIs
To ensure that all activities are in compliance with Company and Health and Safety standards.
To work with AutoCad, and to use PowerPoint for presentations from time to time. However, training in specific IT packages will be available if required.

Candidate Profile
Qualifications:

Candidates must be of “graduate calibre”, ideally with a B Eng or equivalent. Alternatively, the successful candidate could be qualified to degree standard (or equivalent) in Manufacturing Systems, Automotive Manufacturing etc.

The minimum standard of HNC in Engineering or similar would be acceptable in a candidate with a high level of relevant work experience.

Experience:
Proven experience in production engineering / project management.
Candidates will ideally have experience in working within the automotive industry.
Candidates should have experience in cycle time reduction and know how to quantify improvements in the production process.
Experience in process design is preferred.
Experience in a high volume/high complexity manufacturing, preferably JIT, environment is preferred. Ideally the candidate will demonstrate a good understanding of Kaizen / Continuous Improvement techniques.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate project management skills, with an understanding of project management tools and processes.
Experience of VA/VE and FMEA activities is highly desirable
Candidates should be familiar with QS9000 standards and PC literate
The ability to read and interpret design drawings is required
