Software Engineer for Embedded Software Development (AUK/TD07/0101/W3WJ)

Alten Ltd is the UK branch of the Alten Group, a Pan European engineering company specialised in R&D and Advanced Technologies, employing over 8000 professional engineers across Europe. Alten Ltd has now been active in the UK for 17 years.

Alten Ltd currently seeks a talented software engineer to work within a strong R&D team to develop low level software for embedded systems. The candidate will take ownership of the development and delivery of the software.

Working to challenging deadlines, the engineer will be expected to participate in the full software development lifecycle.

The role will involve development and at the end of the coding stage, through testing of the low level software including designing and writing test cases.

With a strong understanding of low level programming expertise, the candidate will contribute to the prototyping and development of a new platform. The candidate should have previous demonstrable experience with low level multi threading, inter-processes and inter-processors communication, Interruption handling etc

Additionally, s/he will work with and assist other team members to perform functions such as code inspections, design reviews and then work to debug any problems.

The candidate will also be required to carry out some programming of tools using Perl etc.

The candidate will have a flexible attitude and a willingness to travel.

Essential
# Strong Experience developing Embedded low level software in C for embedded systems.
# Experience of programming in Assembler language for multiprocessor / multicore systems.
# Adept at using Trace32 for debugging and other embedded debugging tools.
# Understanding of ARM based hardware mobile platform from ADI, STM, Philips, EMP etc.
# Good knowledge of Perl.
# BSc (or equivalent) in computer science, software engineering or a related engineering discipline (relevant Masters or PhD a plus).

Desirable
# Experience with digital Oscilloscope and / or logic analyser
# Familiarity with build and configuration management tools.
# Good communication skills and appreciation of cultural differences.
# Able to work individually or as part of a team.
