Structural Engineers / Consultants

We are seeking highly motivated, dynamic and influential individuals with strong backgrounds in structural engineering to join our UK operations and can further the development and growth of our businesses. Interested candidates should have a good understanding of the technical and management issues fundamental to structural engineering requirements of protective structures in one or more of the following fields: defence, refining, petrochemical, chemical, metal or oil and gas processing industries. In addition, the candidate should have an interest in business development and have good organisational and communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

This is a combined commercial and technical role in an established consultancy. Candidates will be operating in a consultancy environment and will be managing and developing their own leads, marketing and often covering multiple client projects. The core competencies include:

• To manage, assess, deliver, monitor projects and consultancy, and be responsible for handling the technical aspects of a range of structural engineering projects including; blast, impact, seismic, security issues and physical testing.
• Develop and manage existing and new client relationships to meet business requirements and targets.
• Identification and development of new business opportunities.
• Producing project deliverables on time and to budget.
• Able to liaise with & motivate colleagues effectively to reach project & company goals.
• Represent the company in technical meetings with customers and third parties.
• Scope consultancy projects and prepare commercial proposals.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of standards, methods, data and the use of appropriate software.
• Review work and reports for technical & grammatical quality.
• Deliver technical papers at national and international conferences.


Qualifications & Experience:

• A bachelors degree or higher in an engineering or scientific discipline and chartered or working towards becoming chartered with an appropriate institution.
• Expertise in the analysis and design of protective structures to resist the effects of blast wave and fragment/debris impact loading; inspection of damaged structures; and associated engineering failure analysis.
• Familiarity with the main UK structural design codes and possessing a strong interest in structural dynamics and extreme load effects on structures is essential. Familiarity with main US and other international design codes would be advantageous.
• Experience in the use of FEA tools to characterise structural problems, assess loading regimes and structural response, and to develop remedial or mitigating actions to improve system performance will be of significant interest.
• Proven experience of working in one or more of the Defence, Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical or Metal Industries in an structural engineering type role for at least five years or have been operating as a structural engineering consultant in any of these industries for at least five years.
• Experience of giving technical presentations and managing commercial negotiations.
• Excellent project management skills
• You will demonstrate a good level of technical innovation and a proven track record of relating to clients at all levels within an organization.
• You will need to demonstrate excellent business development skills in both an individual and team environment.
• Proficiency in languages would be an advantage.

All candidates should have an appropriate and practical common sense approach to work, be mature and professional, keen to learn, inquisitive and have a genuine interest in business expansion.

Candidates should also show commitment to the achievement of results, be client focused and have excellent written and oral communication skills through the medium of English. They will have a sound technical base, be IT literate, self motivated, with good observational skills, have drive and show initiative.

This position will encompass UK, European and International travel with associated on-site work. Please note that security clearance may be needed for some project work.

Salary level is negotiable dependent on skills & experience. An option to be “Home Based” may be considered for this role.
