Digital Switching Engineer - Reading


Our client is a leading UK entertainment and communications company. They are currently looking to recruit a Digital Switching Engineer to provide 24 hour support, 365 days per year, monitoring and fault progression of the International, National and Regional Digital Switched Voice Network, as part of a team of shift-workers.


Role:
The role is necessary to ensure the timely detection and resolution of network faults, minimising the impact on to customers.
•Effective and efficient monitoring of the international, national and Regional Switched Digital Voice Network based Berkshire, to ensure that customer service is maintained, and to minimise disruption to that service.
•Carry out proactive routines on the network in order to minimise failure.
•To despatch and assist Field Engineers during fault resolution, by manipulation of management systems to perform diagnostics.
•To liaise with internal customers and third party supplier’s technical staff, in order to resolve faults or operational problems.
•To maintain an accurate record of all faults on the Network, using the Network Operations Fault Ticketing Systems detected or notified, and to ensure that escalation procedures are followed.

Experience:
•2-3 years experience in telecommunication, with formal qualifications to a minimum of BTEC level 3/ONC, from a recognised authority is essential.
•With a background within a telecommunications environment, preferably in a Network Management role. To include comprehensive knowledge of voice telecommunications principles including CCS7 signalling techniques, gained through formal study
•Experienced & formally vendor trained in Digital Switching, on at least one of the following: Nortel DMS 100, Marconi System X, Nokia DX 200/220.
•Additional experience on Siemens EWSD, Ericsson AXE10, SS8 VMP, Comverse VMP, Marconi Gain SCP 370 would be advantageous.
Posses a good working knowledge of SDH and PDH transmission networks.
•Recent experience using industry standard trouble ticket and alarm handling systems would be advantageous.
•PC skills including a sound knowledge of all standard Microsoft Office applications
•The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure, as part of a team of shift engineers.
•Good interpersonal and organisational skills are essential including the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
