This is a significant opportunity to manage a major development programme to underpin the decommissioning of a high profile facility at Sellafield, working as part of the Main Contractors team. The candidate must be able to demonstrate technical expertise and authority commensurate with the position in his/ her field of expertise. Must have demonstrated an ability to actively develop his/her expertise and to sell his/her skills to projects and prospective clients. The technical requirements of the job are to manage a development program and development engineers involving a wide range of mechanical and process equipment in order to ensure a successful contract outcome. The unit operations involved include:

Deployment and use of manipulators to retrieve waste
Removal of corrosion formed sludge from waste storage ponds
Pumping of sludge
Demonstration of plant and equipment required, including installation techniques, viewing and lighting, remote maintenance and recovery after plant failure, remote size reduction, washing of plant and equipment.
Durability of key components due to erosion and radioactive deterioration.

The successful applicant(s) will be expected to undertake all aspects of the work, including:

Formulation of technical work programmes
Management of budgets and programme
Management of subcontracts
Hands- on testwork
Integration of results into ongoing design work
Clear and effective communications with client, development subcontractors, technical specialists, and the design team.

EDUCATION: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) for either post

For the Role of Technical Development Engineer:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience with an engineering company, technical development company or operating company.
Experience of product or process development is preferred.
Design or operational experience with either mechanical handling or nuclear waste treatment is preferred.
Working towards corporate Membership of Professional Institutio
