Enviromental Manager-London(Major Construction Project)
Responsible for ensuring that all aspects of environmental legislation related to the site are complied with, that the projects environmental commitments and monitoring requirements are met on a daily basis and that the projects environmental performance improves continually.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
" Preparing and updating the site Environmental Management Plan.
" Ensuring that all subcontractors are complying with the requirement of the Environmental Management Plan on a daily basis.
" Maintaining an ISO 14001 compliant Environmental Management System on the project.
" Conducting weekly formal environmental inspections and additional ad-hoc inspections to identify any environmental issues on site and ensure that they are closed out in a timely fashion.
" Carrying out formal environmental audits of sub-contractors to ensure that they are fully aware of their environmental responsibilities and that they have procedures in place to implement them.
" Carrying out noise, air quality, dust, water quality, temperature & vibration monitoring and ensuring that compliance with site limits is met on a 24-hour basis. Investigation and resolution of any issues when exceedances occur.
" Ensuring that site waste management practises comply with legal requirements, that subcontractors only use correctly licensed facilities and that the correct documentation is available to prove that the site is complying with waste management legislation.
" Management of issues in relation to contaminated land remediation on the development, including sampling, preparation of validation reports, removal and treatment of knot weed contamination and closing out planning requirements relating to contaminated land.
" Liaison with statutory authorities (Environment Agency, London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, Thames Water) to ensure that all necessary environmental permits are in place to allow continued construction, including hazardous waste disposal codes, contamination exemptions and discharge consents.
" Management of specialist environmental subcontractors including waste management , contaminated land, knotweed and monitoring consultants.
" Preparation of site instructions and method statement support for specialist environmental subcontractors.
" Review of environmental section of subcontractor method statements where applicable.
" Review and input into tender process and contractual documents where specific environmental issues have been identified.
" Accompanying the Waterman Environmental auditor during monthly audites and addressing any issues that are raised.
" Management and development of the Safety & Environmental Initiative Scheme.
" Provision of advice on environmental law to the project team as and when required.
" Keeping abreast of changing environmental requirements and briefing out relevant issues to the project team as and when they occur.
" Providing any other environmental support to the project team as required.
Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications required for the position
" Environmental engineering degree or equivalent
" Membership of appropriate professional body
" Minimum 5 years relevant experience two of which must have been in a construction role.
