Business Principals Advisor
This organisation is the UK's official Export Credit Agency reporting to the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.
They facilitate the export of goods and services and investments overseas by offering financial protection to exporters, investors and banks. Their main areas of business are civil aerospace, defence, oil and gas projects and overseas investments.
Our client is aligned with environmental and socially sound business principals and as such the main objective of this post is to provide assurance that all business complies with these guiding principals. This will involve assessing the potential environmental, social, human rights and health and safety impacts of all applications for support.
The Role:
This will require initiative in selecting the appropriate method of assessment along with dealing with new and unexpected issues. As a result the post holder will produce a written statement outlining positive and negative aspects of any given project along with a recommendation as to whether support any given case. This can involve overseas travel to the site of the proposed project. The Post-holder will also carry out a range of information searches on the exporter and buyer. For larger or more complex projects a review of a full Environmental Impact Assessment is required.
Other duties will include developing policy and procedures and assisting with the development and training to other staff members. Our client's activities are subjected to regular press, parliamentary and NGO attention so the post holder must be able to influence long-term perceptions of the company.
Skills and Qualifications:
You will have relevant technical knowledge through a degree in engineering or environmental science. You will be expected to study for and achieve the IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management (if you have not already achieved this).
You will have technical knowledge of international environmental standards (e.g World Bank) and of technical/engineering concepts and terminology. Good communication skills are required along with the ability to explain and defend assessments.
This role offers the opportunity to take on a high profile role and the post holder will form a strong political and commercial network. It also offers extensive overseas travel and the possibility to have a real influence on large international projects.
