Team Leader (Web Development team)

Digital Look is a leading financial information and news service, providing a comprehensive suite of stock market & personal finance data, tools and education to clients.

Based in central London, we are a well established and fast growing financial media and technology company growing at more than 50% per year. This represents a significant opportunity for candidates to develop their roles and career rapidly.

Background to & purpose of role: To support and lead all aspects of web development.

Key responsibilities:
• Lead the development team to deliver industry standard, high availability and scalable solutions capable of handling large amounts of data
• Encourage and enforce, by example, good coding practices for developing large dynamic websites meeting high quality standards
• Take a hands-on approach to code, design & architecture, code reviews, test driven development, documentation in order to ensure performance, quality and productivity of the team
• Liaise with business and management to understand requirements and provide relevant solutions, by evaluating existing commercial / in-house software or options to develop new solutions from scratch
• Work with other members from other teams to understand the impact of requirements and solutions proposed on their respective systems
• Keep abreast of the relevant technology developments in the industry and encourage team members to adopt them
• Work with management and the team for allocating tasks and meeting project deadlines
• Work with the Infrastructure Team to support changes to the production environment as required, including membership of the early/late/24x7 rota’s as appropriate
• Communicate status clearly, both written and verbal, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders as necessary to ensure the solution meets their needs
• Work closely with the business and where required project managers, to help create and deliver a successful project and resource plan
• Identify training and development needs for team members

Essential
• Good experience of leading team software development teams
• Good experience in a LAMP development environment and have proven skills in all related technologies (Linux/Perl/Apache/MySQL and HTML)
• Experience using XHTML, CSS and JavaScript including issues surrounding cross browser compatibility and accessibility
• Understanding of code release procedures, CVS or SVN and unit testing
• Knowledge and use of CPAN libraries
• Highly motivated, with the ability to manage and deliver projects to a high level of quality, within agreed timescales

Desirable
• Experience with JQuery and JSON or other JavaScript libraries
• Experience with agile (SCRUM) development methodologies
