Manager - Software Engineering (Web Technologies)

Our Client is a leading outsource solution for e-commerce and is actively looking for a Manager - Software Engineering.

The Manager, Software Engineering is responsible for staffing, mentoring and deploying Java development resources including onshore and offshore Java/J2EE/Web Developers and Technical Team Leads. The focus of this position is managing software development activities for the company's Java/J2EE/Web based applications and web service integrations.

Work place will be Barcelona, being in close contact with their team in the USA.

Responsibilities
• Staffing, deployment, management and oversight of onshore and offshore Java/J2EE/Web development activities.
• Recruit skilled Java developers and provide leadership and mentoring to facilitate their continued growth.
• Coordinate development activities between onshore and offshore development teams and integrate their deliverables for successful delivery.
• Build detailed software development plans and track efforts against budget and plan to deliver on committed budge and dates.
• Mitigate risk to projects by understanding resource and task dependencies and managing these risks accordingly.
• Provide a point of resolution for issues escalated from the project team members.
• Ensure successful delivery of development projects from both a time and quality perspective. Remediate any issues that impact project success.
• Manage many tasks simultaneously, be organized and a good planner. Also be able to manage large groups with multiple functions & locations.
• Ensure the quality and completeness of code and documentation deliverables from development teams
• Collaborate with technology and business management peers to determine optimum release plan
• The job requires communication with internal & external customers. The ideal candidate should be able to handle the technical & business conversations
• The ideal candidate should have great people skills, build relationships, promote teamwork, and have a solution oriented mindset

Requirements
• Seven (7) years experience in managing software development activities and large-scale system vision/design.
• Five (5) years experience working in Java/J2EE architectures with heavily data-driven applications.
• Experience managing successful offshore development teams.
• Experience with high-volume transaction systems in Internet space.
• Knowledge of software design at the architectural level.
• Knowledge of software estimation methods.
• Knowledge of software project management and risk management.
• Knowledge of Unix environments, Unix Shell scripting and SQL.
• Experience in collaborative teams using revision control systems such as CVS
• Experience managing dynamic projects on tight schedules
• Experience with Oracle 9i or higher, BEA Web Logic 8.0 or higher desired
• Experience managing integrations with XML / SOAP technologies is desired
• Experience developing in MVC / Apache Struts Web Application Framework is desired
• Strong attention to detail, good communications skills, and a positive attitude
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is desired
• Availability to travel to the USA by 4-8 weeks at the beginning of the contract and 1-2 per year
• Excellent English skills (or native) is a must
