Software Test Engineer

Role
To test firmware embedded and associated with CSR's Radio devices. This will involve designing and implementing automated tests, running existing test harnesses and test cases, and monitoring the day-to-day running of such tests. Documentation of results and fault logging, tracking are also required.

Responsibilities
The candidate will have responsibility for assisting with testing of Bluetooth and other radio protocol software before customer release. This means:

The candidate will continue development of and integrate a set of test systems, in co-operation with the development team, applications team and production team. The design of tests will be structured according to the requirements of each release and will be agreed within the test plan.
The candidate will work with individual developers and test team members to further test design. This will also include troubleshooting of individual software problems and subsequent regression test development and implementation.
The candidate will be involved with current and forthcoming releases of software testing according to an agreed test plan. They will perform tests on each release and feed back test results (including bug reports) to the test and development teams.
The candidate may be involved in reception of bug reports from customers, and may need to take responsibility for reproducing such bugs on-site and reporting them to the test and development team.
Experience
Previous experience of testing embedded software is very desirable as is previous experience of designing and implementing such test systems. Candidate needs the ability to work and learn unaided on his/her own initiative, and to be able to form team relationships with others in the organisation without reference to hierarchy.
Candidate should ideally have previous experience of working with, and testing, software implementing communication protocol stacks.
Candidate should also be able to work under pressure to tight timescale's when required and needs to maintain a flexible attitude towards the job.


Mandatory technical skills

Windows and MS-Office
UNIX, with proven UNIX shell-scripting ability. (Solaris / Linux / Cygwin)
Familiar with lab equipment such as scopes, digital multi meters etc.
Experience of a scripting/programming language.

Desirable technical skills:

‘Expect' – a test implementation language based on TCL or some TCL experience.
Some knowledge of electronics and/or RF.
