VB / SQL Manufacturing Developer

UltraVision CLPL is a leading Contact Lens designer, manufacturer and distributor based in Leighton Buzzard, UK. We sell our products to more than 60 countries worldwide. Due to our strong growth, we are now seeking a full time VB / SQL Manufacturing Developer to work along side our manufacturing team.

The core system used by the business is Microsoft’s Navision ERP system; from this many ancillary systems have been developed to enhance other areas such as business reporting, process management and manufacturing. These sub-systems have been developed piecemeal over many years and are generally in VB6, Access 2000 and Crystal Reports. The company is embarking on an exciting phase of modernisation and you will be involved in moving the data and systems from Access to SQL Server and from Crystal to Reporting Services.


The role will include work in the following areas:

• Moving the data and systems from Access to SQL Server and from Crystal to Reporting Services.
• Development and implementation of new information systems for supporting, monitoring and controlling the manufacturing process
• The first line of technical assistance on software related matters to the company on a day to day basis


The successful candidate will:

• Have experience with VB (VB6, VBA or VB.Net), Access and Microsoft SQL 2000 as those are the core skills necessary to fulfil this role
• Be an experienced generalist capable of maintaining existing systems and databases as well as developing new systems
• Be comfortable in handling a broad range of Microsoft technologies and be a proven trouble-shooter.
• Hold a degree in IT/engineering or equivalent level qualification in a relevant subject
• Enjoy working in a dynamic environment
• Be a self-starter and also work effectively as part of a team
• Be willing to learn new skills
• Enjoy, and be motivated by change


Other systems the successful candidate will be involved with will be Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Reporting Services, Analysis Services (OLAP), and Integration Services (DTS). This offers you a chance to get to grips with Microsoft’s latest exciting offering.

The position will be based in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire UK. You will be working with a Senior BI / Data Analyst, developing and implementing new systems and will report directly to the Manufacturing Development Engineer.

The salary range for the vacancy is up to 25K per year, depending on the level of professional and personal skills, and relevant previous experience(s).
